MPA Says Circulation is Stable

 Folio quotes the Magazine Publishers of America which found that although magazines have been losing newsstand sales, there has been an uptick in subscriptions, leaving overall circulation stable.  The MPA felt that there was a better news story about the industry than the horror stories that are so often picked up lately. Circulation executives are capitalizing on new technology options to market subscriptions differently and more efficiently, the MPA found,  and magazine readership continues to grow— not very much, but still, up about 5 percent from 2005. Says an MPA exec, “There’s obviously confusion between the impact of the recession on ad pages and the consumer’s relationship with magazines. And those assumptions are often wrong.”
